Funding & Capital Strategy
Most renewable energy projects in Indian Country and underserved communities die in the funding gap. Capital exists through the IRA, USDA REAP, DOE tribal energy programs, state and regional Green Banks, CDFI loan funds, and a growing pool of mission-aligned private capital. Accessing it requires the right narrative, the right financial models, and the right relationships. Sun Bear builds all three.
Our funding work goes beyond a one-time grant application. We help clients build a long-term capital strategy: which sources to pursue and in what order, how to layer them so each dollar pulls down more dollars behind it, and how to maintain compliance and reporting once the capital is committed. We have particular depth in IRA Direct Pay and transferable tax credit programs, CDFI and Green Bank structures, New Markets Tax Credits, and philanthropic and program-related investment from foundations active in climate justice and tribal sovereignty.
